Happy Birthday, Cupcake

Damn, burlesque is old. Part comedy show, part striptease, the art form dates back to the late 1800s. Although the old-school burly shows fizzled out with champagne bubbles during Prohibition, a new breed has been born in cities everywhere. And Miami is no stranger to neo-burlesque. Shameless Burlesque, the biggest troupe around, celebrates five years of bringing nostalgia, sex appeal, and glamour to the MIA. Holly Peno, the ringleader; Aurora Natrix, the British bombshell; Angie Z, the songbird; Sofia Luna, the luscious Latina; and “Nasty Nictor” Shira Abergel are local celebrities, and they’ll host a “terribly girly” birthday party at the Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami) this Saturday. Complimentary bubbly for ladies will flow. The girls will perform at 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., accompanied by the Riot Act. DJs include Analog in the main room, Wasabi on the patio, and Brad Strickland in the lounge.
Sat., Sept. 21, 10 p.m., 2013
