The Big Orange isn’t known as a bicycle-friendly town. Mayor Manny Diaz is looking to change that — at least for this Sunday’s Bike Miami event. The good mayor and his city have closed Flagler Street from the courthouse to Bayfront Park, along with portions of South Miami Avenue, in order to allow only pedestrian-powered transportation. That means you won’t have to worry about being sideswiped by a motorist texting with one hand and eating a cheeseburger with the other. Instead, get the pleasure of strolling or pedaling through the streets while burning a few calories and saving the planet.

Grab your bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, or walking shoes and head to Flagler Street, South Miami Avenue, Bayfront Park, or the Bay Walk and enjoy all that this beautiful city has to offer — at no cost. Streets will be closed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 305-375-1647 or visit www.bikemiami.blogspot.com to register for a special course in traffic skills for bicyclists.
