Dubstep was popping up in Miami venues long before it was usurped by the likes of Skrillex. In fact, back when British pioneers were experimenting with the genre, they frequently crossed the Atlantic to pay the 305 a visit. But its point of dominance came when Shake, the Thursday-night party at the Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami), started a party within a party, and hence Get Low was born. The monthly bash devoted to the often-maligned EDM genre is still very much devoted to bringing the best that dubstep offers, meaning you’ll find more of the original UK style and less of the American brostep variety. It’s probably why the title of Best Monthly Party we bestowed on it in 2010’s “Best of Miami” issue still holds years later. And this week, helping Get Low celebrate its three-year milestone is Japan’s Goth-Trad, who’s been perfecting his craft since 2001, and New Zealand’s Truth. Leading the local cavalry are Ashworth, A-Train, Rob Riggs, and, of course, Juan BassHead, who began championing dubstep when most of its current fans were in elementary school.
