Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Beach: Five Events Not to Miss

This weekend, fashion and music fuse together to bring you Funkshion - a fashion show with that extra funk.

Kicking off Wednesday underneath the tents at Collins Park, between the W and Setai Hotels, Funkshion is celebrating its 25th season.

We've narrowed the Funkshion schedule down to five fabulous (and free) events you won't want to miss if you're attending.

LA GlamRock by Lauren Ashley

Miami native Lauren Ashley had been a part of the fashion world for almost two decades before she decided to branch out and start a clothing line of her own. On the GlamRock website, Ashley states, "My client is the woman that knows who she is, what she wants and is not afraid to make that distinctive statement with her fashion." With a brand name like GlamRock, need we expect anything less? If Ashley's collection is anything like last year's fashion show, it'll be fashion-forward with a spicy rock star edge.

Casey Levan, Facebook event page

Casey Levan by Evrice Cornelius

Evrice Cornelius will be showcasing looks from the upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 Modern Grunge collection. According to the clothing line's Facebook page, "our goal is to culturally evolve in the market and make the inaccessible designs accessible to the common market." The Casey Levan brand is unique because it is inspired by a unisex lifestyle, and thus creates tees and accessories to be used by either men or women - leave all the gender norms behind and indulge in pure fashion.

Wednesday, October 16, 8:30 p.m., RSVP funkshion25@funkshion.com

Red Dress Fashion Show by American Heart Association

Perhaps the biggest event at Funkshion is the Red Dress fashion show. Red is a feisty color that looks great on almost anyone, and when the color also symbolizes a cause for heart health, it's that much sexier. At last year's runway show, ladies of all shapes and sizes (not just stick-thin models) strutted in red dresses and gowns from various designers. We're hoping this year the American Heart Association employs real women again to showcase their selected red dresses.

Friday, October 18, 7 p.m., tickets for this event require a special RSVP to Lisa Romero at lisa.romero@heart.org

Gustavo Cadile, Facebook

Gustavo Cadile Fashion Show

Gustavo Cadile is a world-renowned fashion designer with his roots at the Miami International University of Art and Design. Cadile's gowns are luxurious in nature and look as if they all belong on a runway or red carpet. If Cadile showcases his latest Spring 2014 collection for Memeka Studio, there will be plenty of lace, sequins, draping, and a wide range of popping colors.

Friday, October 18, 9 p.m., RSVP funkshion25@funkshion.com

T Rains Fashion Show with Special Performance by Tokyo Diiva

You might be familiar the name T. Rains as former co-founder of the stylish Heatherette brand. Since then, Traver Rains has separated from the group and started his own line simply called T. Rains. The T. Rains mission is "to provide you with wearable fashion that is also without question a conversation piece." And judging by last year's Funkshion fashion show, Rains is upholding that mission. The newest T. Rains collection is a fusion of his Western roots and NYC influences.

Saturday, October 19, 9 p.m., RSVP funkshion25@funkshion.com
