Food For Flight

Food can nourish and sustain life, but it’s so much more than fuel. Food has the capacity to transport you to far-off places with just one whiff. Giada De Laurentiis, the celebrity chef of Italian origin, French schooling, and American fame, has found a way to teach children about the wonders of food and adventure. With her first endeavors into children’s literature, De Laurentiis’ Recipe for Adventure: Naples and Recipe for Adventure: Paris are meant to teach youngsters about the possibilities of food and healthy eating. While cooking with their nanny, characters Alfie and Emilia get lost in the ingredients and travel to Italy and France. Each book even comes with two unique recipe cards to use as delicious plane tickets for your own children. You might recognize De Laurentiis from her work on the Food Network or from one of her six cookbooks, but now is your chance to see her in person at Books & Books (9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour). She’ll make an appearance this Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are in the form of a $13.98 voucher that includes one copy of each of De Laurentiis’ new books — Naples and Paris — entrance for one family of four, and participation in the autograph session.
Thu., Sept. 12, 6 p.m., 2013
