Fix The Green, Love The Green

For years, ecologists had been saying we were forcing our planet into a crisis, but not until our fave VP Al Gore presented us with (and won an Oscar for) An Inconvenient Truth did we actually listen. Now that winters are warm and summers scorching, we’re finally realizing why Mother Earth would put us over her life-giving knee if she could. But just as we do for our human maternal units, we give her a full day for herself: Earth Day. And this year there are plenty of places to help her celebrate.

By injecting our favorite aquatic mammal shows with a shot of “green” all day, Miami Seaquarium (4400 Rickenbacker Cswy., Key Biscayne; 305-361-5705) will be teaching kids and adults the importance of preserving the environment. And because simply learning what to do isn’t enough, spring into action at Baynanza, a day dedicated to cleaning up Biscayne Bay. From 9 a.m. to noon, you and thousands of volunteers can commit to ridding the shoreline of those bottles, cans, and cigarette butts that mar nature’s work. Visit And if your efforts need to be concentrated a little closer to home, 1-800-Got-Junk is accepting all of your electronic waste. Spare your old computers, monitors, VCRs, and eight-tracks from the landfill by hauling them to 232 NE 167th St. from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visit
