Eating for Two

Foodies and philanthropists will gather this Thursday for Dining Out for Life, a one-day gourmet fundraiser where local restaurants, bars, and lounges will donate a portion of their proceeds to AIDS service organizations. The national event, which was launched in 1991 in Philadelphia, is observed in 55 cities and raises about $4 million a year. Here in Miami, a city with one of the nation’s largest populations of those living with HIV/AIDS, Dining Out for Life will support Care Resource, South Florida’s most extensive HIV/AIDS service organization. Most local restaurants will donate 25 percent of your bill, so go online to see who’s participating. Every price point is represented, from the affordable Salad Creations, 8-oz Burger Bar, and Bulldog Barbecue to the more high-end Chef Allen’s, Gotham Steak, and Hakkasan. So patronize one of these establishments, enjoy fine food and wine, and feel good about any splurge spending. The larger the bill, the greater the donation to Care Resource.
