If you grew up watching Saturday Night Live, youre familiar with the stretch when the shows popularity went into a free-fall. But right when SNLs viewer ratings were scraping the bottom of the barrel, new comedians and their characters swooped in and saved the day. One of those saving graces was Dana Carvey and his judgmental Church Lady swagger, as well as his dead-on impersonations of George H. W. Bush and Johnny Carson. He realized his limitations, though, once saying, My Al Gore was sort of like a gay Gomer Pyle.
The Emmy-winning comedian has had a fruitful career beyond SNL. He also played Garth to Mike Myerss Wayne and made his fans suffer through his turtle impressions in The Master of Disguise.
