Its that magical time of year again, when throngs of excited families load up in their minivans and head to Southwest Miami-Dade. That time of year when one commercial makes us stop our TiVos, mid-fast forward, just to hear the sweetest jingle in local advertising history. Be there! The Fair
be there! We can already smell the kettle corn. This years Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition is going to kick ass. Seriously.
The fairground is bustling with 100 rides (two are new), an expanded KiddieLand section, and three screamtastic roller coasters. There will be a Mardi Gras parade every evening at 6:30. Some fresh performances are scattered throughout the grounds, including Visions on the main stage, an acrobatic show that features 500 yards of magnificent flowing fabric, aerial drummers, and power skippers. Whoa. After a trippy spectacle like that, it might be time for a turkey leg and a moment to catch your breath. David Lettermans scouts will be hosting a casting call for stupid pet tricks and stupid human tricks on Sunday, March 18, from noon to 3:00 p.m. Today, to celebrate the opening of the fair, admission is just one dollar. Huzzah! (Its normally eight dollars for adults, and seven dollars for seniors and kids six to twelve years old.) Gates are open from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.
