Imagine Cinderella as a young art junkie in vintage glass slippers instead of a disempowered anti-feminist who ruined the acceptance rate of stepparents. This Cinderella would meet her Prince Charming at the Miami Art Museum’s Crash the Ball, held at the Fontainebleau’s Glimmer Ballroom this Saturday. While she primped for her first afterparty, hosted by the museum’s young professionals, her fancy stepsisters would schmooze with art collectors and socialites at the earlier event, the $1,000-a-ticket (and up) annual MAM Ball. At the afterparty, however, she would dance to music by AndrewAndrew, a duo of tech-obsessed iPad DJs. And her fairy godmother would get her mind blown by The Art of 5 Minutes, an installation of music videos explored through the lens of contemporary art and featuring directors such as Nabil Elderkin, who has worked with Kanye West and Bon Iver, and Miami’s own Gil Green of Lil Wayne, Diddy, and Drake fame. Tickets cost $100 presale and $150 at the door; MAM Contemporaries members pay $75. Crash the Ball runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., so leave the carriage-with-a-curfew at home.
