Practically since Art Basel first came to Miami Beach the local art scene has been buzzing about when it will leave, and what that could mean. Those concerns have been laid to rest for at least a few more years as Art Basel's North American has announced it will stay in Miami Beach until 2011.
The extension comes as Global Spectrum pairs with the parent company of Basel, Messe-Schweiz, to take over management duties at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Other exhibitors have expressed concerns over Messe-Schweiz's role in bookings (Global Spectrum says they can only make suggestions), but they hold the keys to what has become one of the City's signature events. The company also has promised to bring another show similar in size and scope to Miami by 2010. Possibly a lawn and garden show.
