Afros Are In

Most people in their early 20s are just trying to find their place in the world (i.e., retreating to their parents’ nests while looking for a job that pays better than being a Starbucks barista). Then there are the lucky ones. For instance, at age 18, Nick van de Wall scored his first dance-floor hit, “In Your Face,” with the help of Sidney Samson and Laidback Luke. By 19, van de Wall had transformed into the phenom known as Afrojack. The 23-year-old Dutch dance music wunderkind has already earned a Grammy, has played at every major electronic music festival, is ranked number 19 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs of 2010, and is now trying to cross over into the mainstream. Hear that beat in Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now”? Yep, that’s Afrojack. And with the single charting high on Billboard’s Hot 100, he can expect more pop production opportunities. Witness this overachiever behind the decks when he visits LIV this Saturday.
