50. Ginger Bardot
For a town as sex-infused as Miami, it's strange that burlesque dancing is not more mainstream. Yet there are several troupes in South Florida, who shimmy and strut in retro glam and tassel-filled performance art. We recently spoke with Holly Peno from Miami's Shameless Burlesque as well as to Betty Pickle, who performs with Hellion Burlesque, a troupe known for their slapstick/grotesque routines. Another Hellion dancer is the charming brunette Ginger Bardot. She remembers her first performance, "I was so tense dancing to Elvis Presley's 'Little Egypt.' Then when it came around for my second dance, 'Nasty Naughty Boy' by Christina Aguilera, I was so into it."
You may have seen Bardot at a number of Souh Florida venues: Churchills, Bardot, Transit Lounge, Revolution, Blue Jean Blues, The Monterrey Club, Zona Verde (a gallery in Little Havana). Or you may have spied her in print as she does some pin-up modeling on the side. "I finally found a type of modeling where you don't have to be excruciatingly skinny to look beautiful. It's helped me so much in my personal life as well. It's helped me to come to terms with my body."

1. List five things that inspire you.
-Having a great turnout for a show
-My partner in crime, Cortney Cates
2. What was your last big project?
The most recent was creating a new and out-there routine/idea/concept
for Rebirth at Churchill's. I opened for Telekinetic Walrus and the
Pride of Ions! I did an act to "Roustabout" (Bassnectar remix) by Beats
Antique in which I was a doll-turned-real-girl. I started on stage tied
to a contraption that the Walrus crew and I had put together to make me
look like a marionette. It was lots of fun and everyone enjoyed it.
3. What's your next big project?
I have a lot of different routines in mind. but, really, my biggest
project is to make burlesque modern and yet sexy at the same time.
Classy and tasteful. Not just stripping as soon as the music starts.
4. Why do you do what you do?
I am an artist in all ways. Dancing is just one of my many creative
outputs. It's perhaps one of my favorites next to photography.
5. What's something you want Miami to know about you?
I want Miami to know that I'm always open to new ideas for songs or
dances. If anyone has an idea, tell me, I'll be more than happy to help
make it happen. Also, I want to educate the people of Miami about the
burlesque scene. It's growing -- quickly.
What's something you don't want Miami to know about you?
There are too many times where I can remember that I have messed up on a dance but no one noticed. I just kept going.
