More About

Yinz. Pop. Stillers. Jagoff. Prepare to hear words like those if you’re hanging around Marlins Park (501 Marlins Way, Miami) this Friday. They’re from the colloquial dialect known as Pittsburghese, and they’ll be spoken throughout Little Havana when the matchup between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins brings out all the western Pennsylvania transplants in South Florida. The Marlins are actually a respectable team this season, ranked second in their division and just three games back from the leaders, the Atlanta Braves. The Fish stand a passing chance of besting the Pirates, who’ve followed up last year’s playoffs run with a season spent lurking at the bottom of the National League Central. But the real reason to attend this weekend’s series, running Friday through Sunday, is the laughable Pittsburgh accent. You won’t find a more cloying, convoluted way of speaking anywhere else in the nation. Except maybe Hialeah.
