This Saturday, be sure to order a Big Mac, large fries, and a side of couture at the grand opening of McDonald’s newest addition in South Beach (1650 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). Some of the most gifted students from the Art Institutes’ creative colony will put on a fashion show to celebrate the three-hour fast-food fete.
The students will go head-to-head to see who can turn out the fiercest designs. But they won’t be using the conventional likes of wool or printed polyester. Instead, those participating will configure silhouettes and waistlines using only Mickey D’s hash brown wrappers, burger boxes, and other packaging to prove the magnitude of their design skills. Fifteen percent of proceeds from the students’ sweat, blood, and tears will go toward the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida.
At the event, a DJ will keep it real on the 1’s and 2’s, and guests will get the chance to win prizes. Even Ronald McDonald himself will make a live appearance, shaking hands with grub groupies during the fashion-meets-food celebration. (Little-known fact: Ronald’s clown shoes are the original “red bottoms.”)
