Miami's Movie Invasion Continues

The 31st Miami International Film Festival has reached only the halfway point. There are still many celebrities to meet and several notable premieres to catch. Beyond intriguingly titled world and indie films such like Fack Ju Göhte/Suck Me Shakespeer and Witching and Bitching, there are more major cinematic events at the Olympia Theater (174 Flagler St., Miami). Saturday morning, the venue will see the premiere of Foosball, an animated film that blew up Argentina’s box office. It kicks off Family Day at the Gusman, with pick-up games and skill tests taking over the stage and featuring soccer pros from Soccer 5 Miami. Later that night, the theater will show the official closing-night film: Rob the Mob, starring local favorite Andy Garcia, who will attend the screening. Then comes the Pyrat Gold Awards Night Rum Party at the Freedom Tower (600 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). Finally, should the hangover allow, Sunday promises more than a dozen screenings at venues from Coconut Grove to Miami Beach. Mercifully, showtimes begin after 6 p.m. The Miami International Film Festival continues this Thursday through March 16 at various venues in Miami-Dade. Ticket prices to screenings and events vary.
