As a Miami Heat fan, you’ve got to hate the New York Knicks. Whether it’s because of the ridiculous way Jeff Van Gundy hung onto Alonzo Morning’s leg during the 1997 playoffs, or the media’s insane perspective that Carmelo Anthony has the right to sniff LeBron James’ gold-plated underwear, there’s no doubt this rivalry runs deep. Don’t even get us started on all the New York runaways who scurry to Miami’s sunny paradise, just to hold some misplaced allegiance for the city they left.
At least Heat faithfuls can rest comfortably knowing the Knicks are bad this year. We’re talking Charlotte Bobcats bad, now 13 games under .500. This is something to revel in. While the basketball world calls Madison Square Garden a “basketball mecca” and mistakenly labels the Knicks as a storied NBA franchise, the Heat has one more championship than the Knicks and is looking to add more. Meanwhile, the Knicks are on their way to another lottery pick. The two teams face off this Thursday at 8 p.m. at the American Airlines Arena (701 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). Tickets cost $50 to $500.
