Most TV-addicted Americans know B.J. Novak by one name: Ryan Howard, the desperate-for-success douchebag on NBC’s The Office. Novak’s character spent most episodes pursuing Kelly Kapoor and being sexually harassed by Michael Scott, but behind the scenes, Novak was a frequent writer and director for the series. Now post-Office, Novak has combined his comedic chops and literary background in his debut book, One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories.
Critics have praised One More Thing. The New York Times’ Michiko Kakutani compared the work to that of comedic greats Steve Martin and David Sedaris, while still retaining Novak’s distinct voice. The author will give a special stand-up performance Friday at 8 p.m. at Coral Gables Congregational Church (3010 De Soto Blvd., Coral Gables). To attend the event, guests must purchase a copy of One More Thing for $24.95 at any Books & Books location in exchange for one ticket, which is admission for two to Novak’s performance. Show your ticket and attached receipt to gain entrance. Visit booksandbooks.com.
