Legos, Tigers, and Bears

Legos are having a moment. The first Lego movie will be released later this year, and now “The Creatures of Habitat: A Gazillion-Piece Animal Adventure” is making its way from a wintry Philadelphia Zoo to the tropics of Miami. This Wednesday, Zoo Miami (12400 SW 152nd St., Miami) will unveil an impressive exhibit made entirely of Lego bricks. Featuring a troop of penguins, a polar bear, a golden lion tamarin, a Bornean orangutan, a harlequin frog, and other creatures in realistic settings, the exhibit aims to inspire visitors to save vanishing species and habitats. Lego-certified professional Sean Kenney and his team of builders spent more than six months and used hundreds of thousands of toy bricks to create the 32 individual sculptures. That’s a lot of playtime. The exhibit will be displayed both in the Dr. Wilde’s World air-conditioned museum space as well as on its outdoor plaza, so at least you’re guaranteed some cooling-off time in the whole viewing process.
