Anthony Quinn won an Oscar for his portrayal of Paul Gauguin in the 1956 movie Lust for Life, in which he played Vincent van Gogh’s friend and rival. But it is his son Lorenzo Quinn who went on to make a name for himself as a real-life darling of the art world. Quinn is considered one of the leading figurative sculptors on the contemporary scene and is represented by the Halcyon Gallery of London. This Friday through Monday, the 47-year-old Italian sculptor and former actor takes his own star wattage to the MIA International Art Fair, where his work will be among the marquee attractions. The unique fair, staged aboard SeaFair, a 228-foot megayacht and exhibition venue docked behind the InterContinental on Biscayne Bay (100 Chopin Plaza, Miami), boasts a tightly curated selection of 30 international dealers showcasing established and emerging contemporary talent. On view will be a diverse array of work in media ranging from cutting-edge photography, painting, mixed media, sculpture, installation, and video. Other highlights include the work of Venezuelan sculptor Rafael Barrios, recognized as one of the most revolutionary Latin American sculptors and represented by Galerie Rauchfeld of Paris. Barrios, who splits time between Caracas and Paris and lives part of the year in Miami, is known for his gravity-defying monumental works that tinker with perception.
