4chan Camgirl Loli-chan Grows Up

But Loli didn't wait that long — she just moved her internet presence deeper underground, where her parents didn't know to look, and posted when they weren't around. She would upload images on places such as ChanSluts and check up on what she thought of as her "fan club," which then numbered in the hundreds. (Even today, thousands of her photos are plastered across the internet on image boards.)

Her first online boyfriend was upfront about the fact that he was 30 years old, even though she was only 14 at the time. The two dated for eight months after chatting for a year. Loli never knew what her beau looked like until one day she received a picture of a fat, nerdy guy with curly dark hair. It disgusted her, and she ended the relationship.

The second boyfriend called himself George Peard and claimed to be only a few months older than Loli. He sounded young the one time they spoke on the phone, but his sexual interests proved otherwise. He would constantly describe sexual fantasies he had about his 11-year-old girl cousin. "George" would pressure Loli into sending special photos, such as her in a skirt or wearing pigtails.

Way before sexting became the topic of national conversation, girls like Loli were setting the prototype for self-exploitation. And because they did so in the nascent days of the internet, no one could have anticipated the consequences. Today, entire academic journals exist to study the effect of the web on attention-seeking kids, but nothing like that existed even a few years ago. The Chans provide pretty much the only longitudinal study on the fallout of oversharing.

And though parents today are at least a little internet-savvy, their counterparts in the mid-'00s weren't clear on how seedy the web could be. With no one watching, girls like Loli used the internet to explore their sexual curiosities. Chans posted pictures of themselves in a liminal period between the invention of the web and the time when adults became as knowledgeable as their offspring. To Catch a Predator — a TV show in which host Chris Hansen entraps would-be rapists — is pretty much a pop-culture trope these days. However, the kids of the previous generation received little to no warning about such men.

Even though the mounting evidence against Loli's boyfriend George was overwhelming, the 14-year-old still felt a certain amount of inertia. "I felt obligated every month on the same day that we started dating to send him a set of pics," she says. "He never explicitly asked, but I thought I was doing it in gratitude for him dating me."

After George persuaded Loli to send nude pictures, he posted them on 4chan. Other posters quickly derided her as a slut. She never dated anyone online again.

One day when she was 16 years old, Loli met a scrawny boy named Lucien in a cemetery near her house. She had to sneak out to see him at first. But after a year, her parents agreed to meet him over some turkey clubs at a local Denny's. Loli was enamored with his good looks, his jokes, and the fact that he knew nothing about 4chan. Soon she made him her first real-life boyfriend and began calling him by the pet name Lucien-chan.

"I want my relationship with Lucien to have been my first, but I had these pseudo-relationships first," she says. "It wasn't them I was in love with — it was the idea of them they tried to represent."

Zach is drunk enough on good Scotch that he has switched to swigging Old Grand-Dad whiskey straight from a plastic-capped bottle. It's an economical decision, says the pudgy 38-year-old, because it all tastes the same after a certain point. He's wearing an old East German officer's hat. At 1:30 in the morning on a Tuesday — a school night for the University of Rhode Island senior — he pulls up a video he's seen hundreds of times.

Zach puts down the antique C96 Mauser he's brandishing to click Play on a YouTube video of a preteen Loli spinning around in a plush computer chair. As she squeals with delight, a smile creeps across Zach's face, and he pushes his ratty shoulder-length brown hair away from his eyes for a better look. His bloodshot eyes begin to gloss over.

"Isn't she cute?" he muses, although it's not clear whom he's asking.

Zach is one of the many fans with whom Loli regularly Skypes. There are also a handful of other hard-core obsessives who send expensive gifts such as DSLR cameras and oddities like dresses and maid outfits befitting a doll. (Zach sends mostly books.) One fan who lives in England even has a stick-and-poke tattoo of Loli's face on his forearm, she says.

But for all the men she keeps up with online, an untold number of others hoard her photos, a fact that haunts her every time she steps outside. A 44-year-old doctoral student at Temple University named Rod Vosburgh was one of them.

In October 2006, FBI Special Agent Wade Luders posted a link on the pedophile message board Ranchi under the alias "Bongzilla." Although it was advertised as a hard-core porn video featuring a 4-year-old, the URL really led to a computer program that would track the IP addresses of anyone who clicked it. Vosburgh, a Holocaust expert, was one of the people who tried to download the video.

Blah blah blah. Loli is just one of the many other chicks that like posting their entire lives online and did so when 4chan was owned by basement nerds. Our culture by default always blame females to began with. If Loli was a male would it have been cared if she did such things? No, not really and infact may have been laughed at. But since she is female this is what happen.

American culture. Ya 4chan is full of all dungeon-walks of life but so is the Real-world. Expect in the real world it's more hidden.  Her parent's didn't bring loli up as a confident lady and this is what happens. Yes Loli guys are users and so are girls. Maybe parents should be more black-and-white with their kids on the behaviors and personalities of selfish and greedy adults than constantly putting them in a bubble-world of false security. Then again americans don't even know how to handle sexuality properly and when you have the curious like loli this happens. If schools were more teaching students not to be afraid of their sexuality and to identify good and bad people, then there would be less shaming involved.

Shame though she's become paranoid because of it, but she did end up having a few interests/stalkers. Oh and the guy who phoned loli's school absolutely sucks and is a coop-out.  Females in this country are taught to actually be ASHAMED of their bodies. This is a ridiculous thinking and it comes from puritan america. If a guy was nude it wouldn't be a shameful thing but a female it's treated as bad and ridicule. The guys who called loli a slut are obvious jerk-off faceless whores who just went along with the social-culture of body-shaming females and the fact that they probably thought loli was some random chick to be bullied with.

If loli though what she had was bad, imagine what pop-stars go through everyday. Course for them when they take their clothes off they get paid up in the thousands for one photo-shoot. Loli on the other hand could have made herself famous and rich by now but she allowed her mental weakness and uncertainty of herself to ruin that. Now her internet past is treated as a "shameful" thing. Some people just can't handle the attention or get the unexpected attention that they didn't really want in the first place when they realize it's not all fun and games. Yes, weirdo's are out there. Loli didn't know where to draw the line and with parents like hers their pretty much useless or punishing. People need to teach their kids how to handle things better.

This was an interesting article. I have never even heard of this person, but they have an interesting life. Thanks for sharing the article!

Regarding her seeing young kids with an older man : "She carries pepper spray and pink polymer knuckles on her keychain in case such kids need a rescuer."  The fact that she has such cognitive dissonance to have fostered the furtherance of the pedophile community with thousands of lewd photos of herself over several years and CONTINUES to do so (even though she is 20 she looks VERY young) and thinks she is some kind of champion for the welfare of the victims of pedophilia is both sick and disgusting. Does she not realize she is one of the bedrock pioneers in postboard pedo porn in the exponential expansion phase of the internet? This woman ENCOURAGED those sick POS people and continues to do so now. She is an absolute piece of human garbage. Her parents should be ashamed of themselves that they still support her- she is not mentally ill- she is PLAYING THEM like she PLAYS EVERYONE ELSE.

Do your research, Ms Conti. The drug is called 2C-E, not 2-CE, and it's not nasty in itself - like any hallucinogen, it depends on how it's used. They're not called "Chans" either, just the unpleasant "camwhores" - "-chan" is a Japanese honorific used as a term of endearment, as for young women.

Child exploitation often happens to young disabled children. I blame this woman's parents for being incredibly ignorant and manipulative. It angers me she was never encouraged to just live.Sad story and I hope this helps someone to not abuse or neglect their child.

Children do the most insane things when they're bored and never think ahead to consider the consequences of their actions.  If this girl-child had been unconditionally accepted in time, it's very likely that this story would never have come to be.  What a sad case!

I only read the first part. The point is: unsupervised internet use by minors is a no-no... at least for the first part of the read.

It says a lot when an article is six pages long and the first page has to be padded out with irrelevant history about the Trojan Room Coffee Cam.

You mean the same Loli-Chan that was, until recently, posting lewd pics of her birth canal on ChanSluts.com and charging people to watch her smoke weed and drop Ecstasy on Myfreecams.com? Poor thing.

Thing is this country needs to stop teaching kids to 'obey their superiors/adults'. They can listen to the GOOD advice of adults, and avoid the BAD advice of them. How to identify men that are users and vice-versa. Fact of matter is random strangers are that, still strangers. Loli did it for the attention, she did it for the fact that men wanted to see her. And yes that was something loli did and probably enjoyed herself for awhile until the negatives came out (the weirdo's and the stalkers). Loli is making herself bigger than what she is. She was basically a meme and internet legend, the average "person" wouldn't know wtf loli was. Walking around with key knuckles and crap is silly. Grow some balls loli and take some self-defense/gun classes, maybe even some task-force training to boost that wavering lost of self-confidence issues she has.

Poor thing was timid, I understand her position a little. I too had same social-making friends issue like loli, because in RL people expect you to be or act a certain way or want things from you. Now as a little older I could care less what other people thought and think and can piss on them if they do. On net it's easier to talk to random strangers who either share same interests or have something else. With the blow-up of facebook and the commercializing of the internet becoming a public-diary, that chapter in the internet life is coming to an end.  If the fly-by ads would stop teaching the internet as a "Scary and dark, bad place where everyone on it is a pedophile!" for the fear factor and simply present the internet as it is, a TOOL, then the dumbnass and generation gap of wannabe tech-savvy parents and nosey busy-bodies wouldn't be such a loop.

Kids hide things from their parents because they KNOW they will disapprove of it or be punished. It's the way to we handle our children. "Taking" things away does not necessary solve the problem and infact may encourage the person to rebel and find ways of being sneakier. Kids can't trust their parents because of the lack of OPEN-COMMUNICATION and SUPPORT when THINGS happen. No kids aren't right all the time but neither are adults. Loli at this point is just trying to erase her whole tiny segement on a 4-trillion connected web-servers. Loli needs to be treated like a normal adult, instead of her parents stuffing her into a tiny closet where the poor thing didn't have a real chance to grow up. She's still dependent on her parents, that's the part that's really sad. Loli was just using the internet as her escape-way into a better 'social-life' where she was accepted where it came down to it, and exploring her sexuality.

Loli is old now ya she may have some 'fans' left whoever but she's not a big deal. There's bigger fish in the pound so she says, the chick is just paranoid at this point. Move out mommy and daddy's house and live life kid.

@verdisvioletta  I agree with your logic here, even though she is a grown woman now, she should be held accountable for the things she did when she was 12 years old.  And when she was 12 years old, she was guilty of the terrible crime of providing social gratification to pedophiles, and for this, she is deserving of scorn.  Even worse, is the fact that she did her crimes during a critical period in the development of internet culture, if she acted a few years earlier, or later, it would not have been so bad, she should have been cognizant of this fact.

But, I know someone who is far more deserving of your scorn.  There is a woman, who is in her mid 20s now, but when she was 13 years old, she had a sexual affair with a 30 year old man.  She was not forced into at at all, she was of sound mind and body, she acted entirely for the sake of her own sexual gratification.  The man ended up in prison, his life was ruined, and it was entirely her fault.

@verdisvioletta Yeah, no.

You're plainly someone who has never interacted with others on a chan-style imageboard and doesn't understand the culture fostered upon them in that era. She was not intentionally seducing men or perpetrating a pedophile culture -- she was an eleven year-old girl who was dazzled by male attention and the idolization of cuteness. Praise and approval are addictive; I don't blame her for being blinded by them.

She probably does have several mental illnesses and requires treatment and coaching to succeed as an adult. As far as the article goes, I'd say she was sheltered during adolescence while still being overexposed to a warped, fleeting culture. She was very popular and successful at what she was taught to do -- show images of herself and entertain -- but that experience didn't teach her how to be a functioning adult. I feel nothing but sympathy and hope for a girl who accidentally deprived herself of her childhood.

@verdisvioletta You're judging a CHILD for encouraging them?  Can you even hear yourself?  She made a mistake AS A CHILD and is now trying to get by however she can with no work history and nothing to recommend her other than this.  The only piece of garbage I see is you, sitting in judgment of this poor woman whose youthful indiscretion has afflicted her in such a negative way.

verdisvioletta

@darkalice93 She exploited herself. Read the article. Know your 4Chan history. Nobody did this to her. Her parents tried to STOP her, but she continued behind their backs...and now wants people to feel sorry for her because she egged on pedophiles for YEARS and now she is afraid of what they might do to her if some sicko comes after her. You can't dangle your feet through the gates of hell and complain if you get burned.
