Ever wish South Florida were more like Kentucky? Then you must not live in Broward. But for the rest of you who just like a little banjo on a Sunday afternoon, we have a less awkward option than letting Netflix base its recommendations for you on the fact that you’ve watched Deliverance a billion times. The first Sunday of every month, the county and the South Florida Bluegrass Association throw a big ol’ free Bluegrass Festival at Greynolds Park (18501 NE 22nd Ave., North Miami Beach) from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. But wait! The only thing you like more than your Ralph Stanley records is counting Sundays! And this Sunday is the second Sunday of the month! Well, friend, your head must be emptier than a jug of moonshine on a Sunday morning, because when there’s a holiday like Labor Day the first Sunday of the month, the festival moves to the second Sunday. This month, the featured act is the Pursell Family Band. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own instruments and join the jam sessions. So if your zither has been getting gunky with egg salad, maybe it’s time to clean it off and get funky with egg salad; many attendees bring a picnic, and you should do the same. Individualism is important, but nobody likes someone who tries too hard. Just have a picnic already. Picnics are great. Festival admission is free for ramblin’ men and women, but park admission costs $6 per car or $15 per RV.
