English New Wave band Wang Chung might seem like old news to today’s whippersnappers, with their Katy Perry and their twerking and their casual dick pics. Hell, they’re not exactly a recent memory for children of the ’80s, either — it’s been nearly 30 years since the duo of Jack Hues and Nick Feldman (no relation to Corey) peaked after tweaking the name of their band from the original Huang Chung.
Still, one “Wang” and a handful of synthesizer-heavy hits later, Wang Chung cemented its place in the modern American pop-culture canon. Everyone you know still knows the words to “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” proving the old cliché that time is relative. And Wang Chung is proving another cliché — you’re only as young as you feel — by continuing to tour the world to capitalize on songs you first danced to while wearing big shoulder pads and an even bigger perm.
The band plays at Magic City Casino (450 NW 37th Ave., Miami) this Saturday in a free show that’ll have nostalgia junkies reliving their “Dance Hall Days.” (See what we did there?) The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and is open only to those 21 and older, not that we foresee the age limit being an issue.
