There are other ways to express yourself on a Wednesday night besides sitting alone and finger-painting with tears on your ex’s photo. Do it in public! But where? Outside your ex’s window? No, do it at the first of three weekly Open Studio events at the Museum of Contemporary Art (770 NE 125th St., North Miami), you creep.
Aside from your getting closure, the goal of Open Studio is to help build community among Miami artists, so you’ll work alongside real-deal artists. Maybe you can commission one to immortalize your kitten in sculpture or paint, which, unlike taxidermy, is something you and the kitten can enjoy together.
Open Studio runs from 7 to 9 p.m. this Wednesday, when MOCA will offer materials and beverages — as well as instruction. Step 1: Make some art. Step 2: Wait until just before 9 o’clock and then hide in the bathroom. Step 3: After everyone has gone home, hang your work in MOCA’s gallery and become a big success. Step 4: Sleep with many models.
Open Studio will happen again August 21 and 28. Admission is free for MOCA members and $20 for nonmembers. Memberships cost $30 for students, artists, and educators, $65 for a dual membership, and 50 lonely bucks for the single (so very single) membership. So if you’re thinking of going to more than one Open Studio, you might want to join. You might also want to put on a scarf and an affected accent. Wait till your ex gets a load of the new you.
