Obama, Trayvon, and Campaign Money

When it comes to George Zimmerman's acquittal, President Barack Obama needs to go much further. Saying "Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago" is not enough.

Although it was nice to see the commander in chief finally address the nation about his blackness, it's time for him to crank up his political fundraising machine — the one that gathered close to a half-billion dollars to get him re-elected — to set up a super PAC that confronts the inequality African-Americans face in the 21st Century.

If Obama is serious about stopping white vigilantes from claiming self-defense when they kill unarmed black teenagers, the prez needs to call up his boy Jay-Z and ask for some of the profits from Magna Carta... Holy Grail to get rid of politicians responsible for Stand Your Ground laws. Put me in charge of the hit list.

C. Stiles

I'll start with U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, a South Florida African-American pol who voted for the controversial law in 2005. Wilson, who at the time was a state senator, now claims she would have voted differently because she never imagined someone would invoke Stand Your Ground to kill an unarmed 17-year-old black boy. In the wake of Martin's death, she has been front and center at rallies, demanding Tallahassee repeal or make changes to the measure they once supported. Wilson has been demanding that the U.S. Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

That will not wash her hands of Trayvon's blood. She didn't have the backbone to vote against the law the first time because she was afraid of taking on the National Rifle Association and its lobbyists.

We need a super PAC to fight NRA influence and educate African-Americans about why it is wrong to continue voting for politicians like Wilson.

If change is to come, Obama needs to put his money where his mouth is.

Correction: This column originally reported that state Sen. Chris Smith voted for Stand Your Ground. In fact, he voted against it as a member of the House of Representatives in 2005.

Uncle Luke you be a racist negro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will stand my ground against yo hoodlums!!!!!! And we don"t need you in our great state of Fla.

You need to lay off the Congresswoman...she is the ONLY politician that has been advocating for Trayvon from day 1. Before Sharpton, before Jesse Jackson, before Obama. She also fought for a young man named Martin Lee Anderson, that you may remember. Where is the Senator for Miami Gardens on this? The Representative ? all of YOUR friends? Anybody else? I haven't heard them saying or doing ANYTHING....so before you go bashing, get ya facts right my brother! And another question, what are YOU doing to make a difference? Besides having parties all over the country and whatnot? come on Big Homie......

Why Are So Many Racists Comparing Zimmerman to Roderick Scott

Roderick Scott, an African American man, shot and killed ... Scott looked out the window and saw three teens attempting to break into his car.

Unlike George Zimmerman, Scott was immediately arrested after the shooting and charged with murder. A grand jury later reduced the charge to first-degree manslaughter. The jury deliberated for about 19 hours before rendering a verdict of not guilty on December 18, 2009. If you have never heard about this story it is because Scott was arrested and had to essentially prove his innocence, just as we have come to expect from the corrupt so-called “Justice” system.

Why isn't this article factually accurate? Zimmerman NEVER invoked Stand Your Ground. It was self defense. Stop trying to make a martyr out of this kid. He brought concrete to a gun fight.

Zimmerman had a long history of violence, including a restraining order for domestic violence, felony charges of resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer (the charge was pled down to a misdemeanor and then closed; Zimmerman's dad was a magistrate at the time). He was bounced from a job as a bouncer for being too aggressive with patrons, the New York Daily News reported. And a family member accused him of a pattern of sexual molestation. He wasn't convicted of any felony charges, which could have barred him from a gun license, but in some societies, people would determine that such a history makes someone less than an ideal candidate for the right to carry around a hidden loaded weapon.

Luke, @aasdf uestion.

IF someone is beating your head in the cement, and punching you, do you then have a right to defend yourself?

Does it matter at that point, who started it?

the other question is, if someone follows someone else, and a fight starts.  and there is no possibility of retreat, what do you do then?    can you defend yourself?

what happens if the person loosing is a woman?  or a child?  or  obese and weak?

George Zimmerman is a child molester who should have been in prison that night, rather than busy murdering Martin and then getting off free.”

It’s becoming painfully clear that the jurors in George Zimmerman’s murder trial acquitted a killer who had a history of violence, disruption and child sexual molestation.

He lied about his finances and the existence of a second passport there is no reason to believe anything else he say.

When an armed man can hunt down an unarmed teenager while on the telephone with a 911 dispatcher, kill the teen, and then walk away free, I think it’s fair to assume that there’s a serious problem with justice in the jurisdiction where the event took place.

Trayvon stood his ground and lost his life. And because he wasn't there to defend himself, Zimmerman took advantage of the law. The law isn't the problem. The problem is racial profiling.

but his HEART was in the right place" ...............juror B37”

This is a sicko, he will commit more crimes in the future, perhaps with one of the jurors children..

let's see how he will get out of this molestation charge against him since the victim is white. At his trial you could look into his eyes and tell that he was a weirdo and he was hide something that he started would come out at try. He kill a child for no reason if he would stay in his car like he was told travon martin would still be here today he was kill because he was black I hope they throw the book at his ass from fondling children.
