Get Star-Spangled Hammered

This Thursday, America is turning 237 years old. It’s time to celebrate life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And of course, that means blowing tens of thousands of explosives into the sky so we can ooh and aah over the pretty lights and colors. Here’s our shortlist of the best ways to celebrate everyone’s favorite birthday (other than our own). Nothing says “God bless America” like a bit of bared flesh, especially when paired with a flag-printed bikini. Head to Miami Beach’s Lummus Park (Eighth Street and Ocean Drive) for Fire on the Fourth, presented by Coca-Cola. This all-day music fest features music by DJ Maximus3000 from 1 to 5 p.m., Fred Thomas from 6:30 to 7:30, and the South Florida Symphony Orchestra at 8:30. Stake out a nice spot on the sand to watch the fireworks display, and bring your own picnic basket with beverages to toast to ’Murica’s birthday. Fireworks start at 9. The event is free. Call 305-673-7577 or visit miamiandbeaches.com. At this mother of all pyrotechnic displays, America’s Birthday Bash at Bayfront Park (301 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami), you’ll be positioned directly under the fireworks display — undoubtedly the best view in the 305. Enjoy a live DJ, free food, drinks, and children’s activities. The waterfront party begins at 3 p.m., and fireworks will light up the bay beginning at 9. The event is free. Call 305-358-7550 or visit bayfrontparkmiami.com. Come hungry to Red, White & Blackbird at Blackbird Ordinary (729 SW First Ave., Miami). In addition to barbecue and spiked ice pops, there will be a kiddie pool for a late-night bikini party. Because you can sleep in Friday morning, there’s no need to hold back on the rock ’n’ roll sounds of Eagle Chief and the music spun by DJ Contra. This 21-and-older party goes from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. And there’s no cover. Call 305-671-3307 or visit blackbirdordinary.com. If you think you can beat Daniel Day Lewis for best Abe Lincoln look-alike, the Star Spangled Music Festival at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park (4020 Virginia Beach Dr., Miami) is your place to shine. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite American hero to celebrate the men and women who have exemplified the American spirit. Enjoy live musical performances, DJ entertainment, gourmet grub from more than 20 vendors, and a myriad of activities for the little ones. Proceeds will benefit the Children’s Survival Network. This 12-hour beach party runs from noon to midnight. Call 305-458-4900 or visit starspangledmusicfestival.com.
