82-Year-Old Lady on Metrorail Victim of Religious Discrimination

Emma Anderson used to belt out gospel hymns as she rode the Metrorail home. Satan and his demons must have heard her angelic singing. A guard from 50 State Security, the company hired by Miami-Dade Transit to watch the stations and railcars, brutally yanked her off the train this past February 20, causing the 82-year-old Brownsville resident to fall on the hard concrete floor of Brickell Station.

In a grainy video first aired by WSVN, the guard enters the train and tells Anderson: "You're getting off here. Let's go." He then grabs her bag, but Anderson doesn't let go. She falls and, according to WSVN, ends up bruising her shoulder. In a prepared statement, transit spokeswoman Karla Damien claimed Anderson's "singing was causing a disturbance to other passengers and impeding important train announcements from being heard."

Only a heathen or an insensitive person would deem an elderly woman's praising the Lord as "a disturbance." What Anderson went through is wrong. These days, you can't be an openly devout Christian without being ridiculed, scorned, and discriminated against. Tim Tebow has been made fun of because he kneels and praises Christ after scoring a touchdown or leading his team to victory. Ray Lewis was called all sorts of vile names, including murderer (he's never been convicted of such a crime), because he invoked God's name throughout the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl run. I call it Jesus racism.

You're better off being a cynical atheist or devil-worshipping member of the Illuminati. Just look at the entertainment industry. Hip-hop artists get rich by referencing evil secret societies in their music. Hollywood is busy making TV shows and movies such as True Blood and Twilight that portray vampires, werewolves, and other ungodly creatures as sex symbols. Even the Catholic Church has been infiltrated by evil through scandals that range from high-ranking priests molesting boys to cardinals covering up sexual abuse.

Things are so bad that Pope Benedict XVI became the first pontiff in 600 years to retire from his post. When he announced his resignation last month, the pope said he didn't have any fight left in him. No wonder Anderson felt compelled to sing about her Heavenly Father.

Well, well. I have watched Zeitgeist, the movie (20 X), Religiulous funny stuff by Bill Maher (28 X), and finally,  the All-time-best! in my humble opinion, "The God who was not there"  (lost count!!!) so that by now, I am cured from Mr. Campbell's guilt induction article about anything religious. Very controversial statement, for I side with Mr. Campbell as far as the physical event. However, I do ride the train. I have met at times with Ms. Anderson, and simply BECAUSE, I move away to evade the distraction, for I do not drive a plush extra quiet Escalade, nor ever be able to afford a taxi, so yeah Mr. Campbell, I suspect you drive some vehicle, and very likely rode public transport in your youth, but by now, you cannot relate to riding the train and buses in the Magic City, you do not have to put up with the annoying distraction of people singing anything out loud in a close Metrorail environment. I don't know why I even bother with this. But yeah I faithfully follow many of your very smart and just articles, but this one, Mr. Campbell, is embarrassing, for it insults your own intelligence, please, Sir, no talking snakes or big fish dwellers, either Thank you! This is the year 2013 and quantum mechanics way supersedes creation writings. That is all they are, writings. from the bronze age and perpetuated somehow. soon to disappear within the next decade or two. to be 'mentioned' in history class in a couple of paragraphs... All Da Best To You! Brother. and thanks for your contribution to Miami New Times. your section is the one I seek and read first.

So you're good with people disturbing the peace as they feel fit as long as how they do it involves religion? you ok with a guy blasting christian rock outside your window 24/7? Would it be religious persecution? But if it was 2 Live Crew Records disturbing the peace? What the heck does what she was singing have to do with anything? did the security guard say please stop humming hymns to yourself softly while a few kids in the back were screaming out rap music? No.... Disturbing the peace is disturbing the peace no matter what you are singing and what color your skin happens to be.

@joeb104 You must know thiz woman personally. If she was your grandmother, would you stand up for that coward's action, or make excuses for sbat you are unaware of. The county has yet to show these rules you heard about.

Can you say the same about people cheering for the Heat game? What about cali Ocho, and the Goon Bay crowd? Do the guards act then?

Really homeboy...you are ignorant for not understanding the first amendment. ;-)

@doug... Let's just pretend that she was your ratchet ass grandma. How would you feel to see her being toss off public transportation? Everyone is missing the point here!!! Since when do we handle eldely people in such manners?!? You my friend are a coward! You are no better than that guard who wasn't on duty@ the time of the incident. Ooooh...I bet you didn't know that huh? It was an "MDT inspector" that gave the order to man handle this eldely BLACK woman. I bet your cowardly ass didn't know this ass well?

How much disturbance do a real transit system need, before mishandling our senior citizen? Let's see there's Goonbay, Heat games, and oh yeah...I bet the guards favorite "Cali Ocho!!!!" MDT just allowed an unjust act to happen to a woman of colored.

My questions to you! Are you white,or hispanic? If that was someone who wasn't in the likeness of Miss. Rosa Park, would you still feel this way? Do you not see the palcards in dedicating seating for eldely in honor of Miss Rosa Park? Did you know that transit has a building named in honor of this historic al
