Party Down

Sure, we’re not in Brazil, but Coral Gables knows how to throw one hell of a Carnaval — one so big that it takes over one mile, two days, and three musical stages. This weekend, Miracle Mile (intersection of Coral Way and LeJeune Road) comes alive with the alluring smell of arepas, pinchos, and other delicious goodness you’re always craving; a plethora of artists and creative types; and a fusion of sound for the annual Carnaval on the Mile. More than 30 musical acts, including local favorites Locos por Juana, Conjunto Progreso, Electric Kif, Ketchy Shuby, Stokeswood, and Suénalo, will provide the soundtrack to the festival at its three stages located on Ponce de Leon Boulevard, LeJeune Road, and Douglas Road. With all of that rumba, you’ll want to dance your way through the Fine Arts Village, where more than 150 artists line the street with paintings, sculptures, photography, crafts, and jewelry as they compete to be named the best in each category. In its 16th year, the festival curated by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana attracts more than 100,000 art aficionados and culture-lovers annually. So channel your inner dancer and samba through the streets of the Gables for the free festival celebrating culture, music, food, and art.
Sat., March 2, 12-10 p.m.; Sun., March 3, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 2013
