What's the proper cutoff for a promotional tour? A year? Two years? Two hundred shows? For Austin, Texas band Bright Light Social Hour, the answer is clearly none of the above. But we're not complaining. "You answer a lot of questions about the writing process, I think, by performing new stuff live," BLSH bass man and vocalist Jack O'Brien told our sister paper Houston Press earlier this month. "In the practice room, sometimes, it's not so black-and-white. But when you put it onstage, you can tell when... the crowd isn't feeling it or you're not feeling it live." New Times first caught wind of BLSH during the now-defunct Miami Music Festival in 2010. The Lone Star State group's psychedelic, '70s Southern garage-rock sound is always stellar. And its rambunctious stage show is a reminder that rock 'n' roll is most certainly here to stay. Take that, Top 40 radio.
