Aside from the scissors for hands, everyone loved Edward Scissorhands because of his otherworldly élan. It’s the kind of spirit we normally attribute to Europeans, but in truth, it comes purely from a lifetime of using a bidet.
The Miami Beach SoundScape Cinema Series continues with Edward Scissorhands, the best movie featuring a guy who can’t tie his own shoes since Over the Top. What a rough go of it poor Edward Scissorhands had! Did they even have lefty scissors back in 1990? Or did they come in around the same time as peanut allergies and children named after cable channels?
The film is also something of a Florida original, having been shot in the Sunshine State. But unless your name is Ricardo Binocularface, you won’t recognize much; it was mostly Tampa that was used. Even so, two decades on, there is a lot the film can tell us about love, acceptance, and even the economy. For instance, “You can’t buy the necessities of life with cookies.”
