They say the holidays start earlier every year, with decorations going up and advertisements running on TV well in advance of Thanksgiving. But the lengthening of annual festivities doesn't affect just Christmas. Miami's annual wintertime art soiree, Art Basel Week, is also expanding.
Case in point: the Heineken Mural Project, which launches Thursday at Cafeina (297 NW 23rd St., Miami), a full week before the official start of Art Basel. The beer brand is bringing its own cultural additions to Miami's festival of tented fairs and high-class parties, including the Open Your World Mural Project, which has invited celebrity street artists such as Chor Boogie, Estria, Prime, and Don Rimx to adorn the walls of the Magic City. Heineken is also planning a series of secret mural site pop-up parties, complete with live DJs, to be announced via the Twitter hashtag #heinekenmurals. Art voyeurs will also have the option of discovering the new public art masterpieces via Deco Bike, renting wheels from the new Deco Bike station at Wood Tavern (2531 NW Second Ave., Miami) and following a map with QR codes to visit them all.
The Heineken Mural Project Launch Party kicks it all off with a set by DJ Lolo (AKA Lauren Reskin of Sweat Records) and the chance to meet the muralists, beginning at 7 p.m. There's no cover, but attendees must RSVP at remezcla.com/heinekenmuralprojectVIP.
