When you think of motorbikes in Miami, you probably think of Memorial Day weekend — girls riding on the backs of seats, bent over, arms around boyfriends’ waists, flashing thongs, and showing off those famous Miami curves.
But this isn’t Memorial Day weekend, and these aren’t the bikes that come with girlfriends as accessories. From Friday through Sunday, Homestead-Miami Speedway (1 Speedway Blvd., Homestead) will host one of the final races in the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Racing Championship Series. Being in the presence of these superbikes, which exceed speeds of 190 mph, feels like watching a tightrope walker cross Niagra Falls, between two skyscrapers, while strapped with dynamite.
Josh Hayes, the series leader, is looking to wrap up the championship at Homestead before the final race. Also part of the weekend’s events are stunt rider Jason Britton, a four-by-four monster truck, the Big Kahuna Bikini Girls, and lots of family-friendly activities.
