More About

It began with a handshake and ended with a movie that would be a shining example of a film icon’s genius. Director, writer, and producer William Grefe has left an indelible mark on B movies. Though he’s recognized best for his work in the James Bond flick Live and Let Die, Grefe has produced influential films of his own. He received a lifetime achievement award from Quentin Tarantino during the Grindhouse Film Festival and has earned the nickname “the Godfather of Grindhouse.” Miami’s beloved independent everything shop, Sweat Records (5505 NE Second Ave., Miami), will screen Grefe’s 1972 film, Stanley, this Wednesday. It’s the snake-loving version of Willard, shot in South Florida and featuring a Seminole tribesman who uses snakes to exact revenge on an unfair world. While the basic plot is grindhouse at its best, the true uniqueness of the movie is the wonderfully intimate relationship between the titular rattlesnake and the protagonist Tim Ochopee (Chris Robinson). Grefe himself will answer questions after the screening, which begins at 7 p.m. and is free.
Wed., Sept. 19, 7 p.m., 2012
