Second Childhood

Playtime is underrated, especially for adults, who don't get nearly enough chances to relive their younger days. That's why it's important to let your inner kiddo out at every opportunity -- including the upcoming free P.L.A.Y. (Preservation, Learning, Adventure, Year-Round) day for all ages at the Deering Estate at Cutler (16701 SW 72nd Ave., Palmetto Bay). This Saturday, the picturesque, 444-acre environmental, archaeological, and historical preserve will offer six hours of eco-arts and crafts, science programs, and historic house tours, all in honor of Miami-Dade's teachers and environmental educators. Begin by limbering up with a yoga demo led by vinyasa expert Zamanta Archibold. Next, enviro-nerds can learn all about water conservation at an afternoon workshop. Later, budding scientists can spot specimens through microscopes at the Book Nook by the Bay. And children can unleash their inner poet with literary artist-in-residence Mia Leonin. There's no shortage of ways to get a taste of everything this eco-estate offers. And because free play works up quite the appetite, you can purchase edibles from the Crepe Maker and the Deering Estate Foundation. The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. Admission is free. Call 305-235-1668 or visit deeringestate.com.
