As far as Hollywood action movies go, 2011's Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, was a stylistic tour de force. And whether you're one of the countless chicks swooning and drooling over RyGos — the dreamy yet dangerous lover-boy next door — or a dude amped up by Gosling's stoic, skull-cracking badassery, both sexes can agree on the sheer awesomeness of the film's soundtrack. Moody, ethereal synth tuneage from indie electronic acts such as Kavinsky, College, Electric Youth, and Anoraak imbued Drive with a special neo-noir atmosphere that lifted it above Hollywood B-movie standards and into art-house territory. One of the soundtrack standouts, for instance, was "A Real Hero," a collaboration between French producer College (AKA David Grellier) and Toronto duo Electric Youth. Both acts are renowned for their retro-electro sound, infusing cinematic '80s synth arrangements with propulsive modern dance-floor grooves. Catch College and Electric Youth, along with Anoraak, this Tuesday when they stop by Grand Central in support of the Drive Tour. RyGos might or might not make an appearance in a silver scorpion jacket.
