"I feel like this should be the last record because a lot of people make three good records and then they don't make good records anymore," he said. "And if we get any bigger than we are, I would lose some interest." And Murphy did, in fact, hang it up a year later, capping the group's ten-year run with a nearly four-hour show at New York City's Madison Square Garden. But at Grand Central this weekend, LCD lives on.
Last week, Oscilloscope Laboratories officially released Shut Up and Play the Hits, a new documentary about Murphy, his decision to break up LCD Soundsystem, and the aftermath of the band's final show. Locally, the film screened for one night only at Tower Theater. Nevertheless, Grand Central will host a slightly belated LCD Soundsystem-themed release party this Saturday with beautiful people, free booze, and local bands Krisp, Beatmachines, the Gun Hoes, the Goddamn Hustle, and Bonnie Riot covering LCD music.
