A great thing about Miami’s burgeoning — and increasingly vibrant — dance scene is its diversity. On most weekends, we can catch classical, modern, contemporary, or folk dance produced and performed by both small, incubator troupes as well as large, acclaimed companies. This weekend, one of our unique and eclectic resident companies, the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, will premiere Spanish Classical Night at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). The troupe was founded by Pedro Pablo Peña, a Cuban exile who was determined to keep his homeland’s historic classical ballet tradition alive on this side of the Florida Straits. Since 2006, Peña has been training dancers and staging classical repertoires to make good on his mission. Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m., he’ll bring together five Cuban and two Spanish principal dancers who will perform a medley of favorites, including snippets of Swan Lake and the Don Quixote Suite.
Sat., June 16, 8 p.m.; Sun., June 17, 5 p.m., 2012
