Girls Girls Girls

Wasn’t it just Miami Beach Pride Week? And the week after that was the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Good Lord, do we really need another gay event in Miami? Of course we do, silly. This is Miami, after all, damn near the only safe haven in the highly conservative state of Florida for gay people. They’re here, they’re queer, and we’re not only used to it but also superexcited about it. That counts double during Aqua Girl, which celebrates its 13th birthday when it kicks off Thursday. The annual lineup of pool parties, club nights, live shows, and more is expected to draw 10,000-plus lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women to the tropics with more than a dozen events in store. Thursday gets things started with Traffic Jam at Dream (1352 Washington Ave., Miami Beach), where ladies will wear glowing necklaces to facilitate easy hookups: Red means she’s taken, yellow means she might be interested, and green means she’ll meet you in the ladies’ room in five. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Aqua Girl continues through Sunday with pool parties at the Surfcomber (1717 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) Friday and Saturday, plus a handful of satellite events at other venues.
