They couldn't, for example, handle Jeanne Moreau frolicking through the French countryside being all nonchalant and extra-attractive while choosing between a bland husband, a polo-playing side lover, and a dashing younger man in the 1958 French flick The Lovers (Les Amants).

When an Ohio theater manager showed the film, America got its panties in a bunch, and the man was hit with an obscenity lawsuit that made its way to the Supreme Court and resulted in Justice Potter Stewart's famous line about pornography: "I know it when I see it." (Translation: You can have sex with two European hotties to the tune of violin music but not with Ron Jeremy to cheesy synth.)
