YACHT at the Electric Pickle December 1

Whether you're dropping mad bills on contemporary art at such-and-such satellite fair or stalking celebrity art collectors at the Miami Beach Convention Center, there's one thing about Basel week that everyone can agree on — it's all about the afterparty. Case in point: Electric Pickle. Next week, the North Miami Avenue club will host some of the best Basel music in the city and kick things off this Thursday with Portland electro-pop act Yacht.

In 2009, the duo — Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans — stepped into the indie music spotlight with their fourth album, Sea Mystery Lights. The record did exceptionally well in terms of blog buzz, earning an 8.5 rating on Pitchfork, while Rolling Stone gave it three-and-a-half stars. That record appeared on nearly every hipster blogger's best of '09 list — not to mention the New York Times' Critic's Choice list. However, the group's 2011 followup, Shangri-La, has received mixed reviews. While the LA Times liked the album, NME loathed it, calling it "hippy-disco good vibes" music. We got the same impression. But we thought the album rocked.

Still, whether you loved Shangri-La or not, you'll love Yacht's live set — just like we did in 2009 when Bechtolt and Evans last partied at the Pickle.
