Tracy Turnblad is a pleasantly plump teenage girl living in 1967 Baltimore. Something of an outcast, she's constantly getting into trouble at school for her big hair and dreams of one day winning over heartthrob Link Larkin. But all she really wants in life is to dance on television's biggest hit, The Corny Collins Show (where Link happens to dance). And when she's given a chance to do just that, Tracy makes it count, big hair and all. Will she get the fame she craves? Will she win the love of her life? Will she defeat the bratty Amber Von Tussle? Will her big hair remain intact through it all? Famous for its unrelenting camp, sugary pop soundtrack, colorful characters, and casting of a dude to play Tracy's mom, the Tony Award-winningHairspray is a tailspin romp filled with laughs, music, and bubblegum fun. The Actors' Playhouse brings the aerosol-filled frenzy to South Florida, with the troupe's own artistic director, David Arisco, going full drag as Edna Turnblad.
