I don't care to ever party on South Beach, truthfully Blacks need to boycott so called urban weekend. While racist biggots are referring to people as porch monkeys, about 300 new refugees probably just washed up on the shore ready to take your job. You mean to tell me you are not mayor of South Beach but Gozalez is. Speaking of monkeys, they are very hairy animals, take a look in the mirror. The history of Miami Beach is a racist one, but of course you have people that come here from other countries so they could care less about what the Beach was like in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. They just float over here on a Civil Rights ticket paid for by Black Americans. Now Yall have fun and party like a rock star at Urban Weekend because I would never spend a dime on the Beach. Besides I don't like the smell of wet dogs or wet chickens.

people dont realize the fire power most south floridians have. honestly, im surprised something hasnt happend by now. maybe because its the beach, folks there tend to be a little diff say than the folks in sw miami, and what not. but guaranteed, with the current social and political climate those "urbanites" are gonna run up on the wrong person or group of people and it will get nasty.
and luke, in the scheme of things, you really dont care about "your people". you enjoy confrontations, intimidation, and etc. i think the last i heard you lived in the country club of miami and sent your kids to a white christian school (dade christian), so we all know where truly your heart is at. when the proverbial sh** hits the fan, you will run and hide, but i hope you and those like you realize you were responsible for alot of it. more and more folks can care a less any more about PC, your feelings, and your contrived struggle. but be sure, sit tight, you will get the show you are looking for.

While it may take a referendum to get a mayor and commission deaf to resident outcry to listen, it is much easier to exercise our power through our vote on November 1st. Haven't the residents had enough??? Urban weekend is not the only problem. Corruption and mismanagement abound, from the police department, city manager's office, the mayor's international travel expenses, to the debacle at the convention center redevelopment. The mayor is unprepared and unable to deal with the city's problems and challenges. There is no vision or planning for the future. As she continues her self-servicing expensive befuddled mess, corruption abounds. Why do you think the police and fire divisions support and endorse her??? Because as she continues her befuddlement, they continue with their ways because NO ONE IS WATCHING!

if "Urban" is just another name for the N word, then why is it called "Urban Week"? and if just on average, arresting over 400 people per memorial day weekend ( 3 days), over 200 guns in 2-3 years then what is your suggestion dear Sir Luke to stop the so called discrimination? I admit, I am not a fan of Miami Beach Police, I think they in general are stuck up and think they are above the law at times.. but at certain times, can you blame them if they have to deal with over 4,213 arrests in 30 total days? ( 10 years x 3 days) ....... it would also be nice if the organization for the week got an actual "permit", just like everybody else who wants to throw a special event.. maybe if you got the proper permits and paid for your own security, then the city wouldnt be involved, right? problem solved... i think...

Right Rhonda. Most blacks live on Fisher Island, Palm and Hibiscus Island and most live on Star Island. The multitudes in Liberty City and Overtown are Swedes with dark tans.

Well put Caroline. The problems of UW have nothing to do with race. The Black community has contributed significantly to the art and culture of our country in wonderful ways. However, UW is not an artistic or cultural event. It is simply reckless, disrespectful and dangerous behavior that has escalated to an uncontrollable scale thanks to the lack of leadership of our mayor and city commission over the last decade. It is difficult to hold the perpetrators accountable when we do not hold our leadership accountable. It is time to take our city back from all those would come here to jeopardize our quality of life beginning with the politicos that disrespect the will of the people.

I agree with you Luke in saying that there needs to be control over this weekend. However, I am not willing to say its about people being African American. The African American community should not stand for the behavior that persists within certain subsets of their culture (and the same goes with anyone's culture). I think diversity is about honoring your heritage, not in letting an infinite number of versions of that heritage muck it up. That being said, the people of Miami Beach (the tax payers) do have a right to say that this weekend either needs to reform itself in a severe way (not just have a few little meetings about it) or it needs to find a new venue. It gets completely out of control during that weekend on Sobe, and while it is not Ok to discriminate against people of any race, it is also not ok for people (whose race is completely incidental) to show up in your city and create public safety issues. Everyone should be held to the same standard, even people who default to the issue of race when concerns are raised. The police however, need to act with more discretion. They are apathetic towards the injustices of the community for the majority of the year, except of course for this one. I honestly feel that if I called 911, no one would show up.

Alex, this is not a latino issue. Why bring Latinos into it? Are you a bigot? A bigot is anyone who has to bring another group into the discussion to justify another group's behavior. We (Miami Beach) are in trouble if the Mayor is listening to someone like Luther Campbell. It always amazes me that the African American role model hyped in this newspaper is a person like him. His freedom of speech win was being able to use the F word and downgrading women. That is what we want children of all ages to do. The problem is not a black or white issue. The problem is violence. Find a solution for that.

What the beach needs to do is start looking at what is actually happening around them and not focusing on one group waiting for them to f**k up.
