The Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival opens Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Dirty Girl at Cinema Paradiso. But if you prefer your ladies to be German lesbian vampires, you’ll find a few in We Are the Night, a Dennis Ganzel flick playing Saturday at the Manor. It’s one of the relatively few standard-bearers of campy awesomeness at FLGLFF, which is stuffed primarily with hi-fi drama. Remember the handsome geek who used say, “Can you hear me now?” in all of those Verizon commercials? He has written a serious, smart-looking film called The Green, about a gay teacher in Connecticut accused of interacting inappropriately with a student. There’s also a French movie called Tomboy, about a 10-year-old girl who relocates to a new suburb and makes friends with the neighborhood kids while posing as a boy. FLGLFF runs through Sunday.
