Get ready for a long-running play that features a shrill and domineering girl, a boy with an oral fixation, and one of the biggest losers in pop-culture history (who also might or might not be clinically depressed). Is it a Sarah Kane play? Perhaps something by Arthur Miller? Why, no! Its the stage adaptation of one of the best-known childrens cartoon and comic strips of all time. Youre a Good Man, Charlie Brown, which opens Friday at the Main Street Playhouse, is a musical comedy that brings the dysfunctional Peanuts gang to life. The play, much like the comic strip, is full of earnest moments and silly circumstances. Based on the popular strips by Charles Schulz, the production features Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, Linus, and Snoopy belting out show tunes, wreaking hilarious havoc, and making poor Charlie Browns life a miserable and gloomy existence.
Thursdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Sept. 30. Continues through Oct. 16, 2011
