It takes alot of effort to try to convince yourself of that. It is easier to believe that God is imaginary because it takes more than human effort to believe that He really exists. If you don't want to believe in God, then don't, but don't base your unbelief on one quote alone. I guarantee you'll find many quotes in the bible that's just downright confusing. At the end of the day, you'll always have a choice to make. You have nothing to lose by believing in God and finding out at the end that He doesn't exist, but imagine how much more you'll lose if He does exist and you didn't believe. It looks as if you went through alot of trouble to try to find something in the bible to back your unbelief. Could it be that maybe you're not entirely too sure about your beliefs? you see, there are bad apples everywhere. Just like you cannot judge an entire country based on one person's behavior, the same goes for Christianity. I really do hope you do some more research about this because no one can force you to believe. If God is imaginary, then good is imaginary. That would also make evil imaginary. where do you think mankind gets the ideas that murder, thievery, adultery, homosexuality, lying and all these things that we feel are wrong or against the law from? Do you think, we, as wicked as we are, could think all of these up? I think not. If we were to follow the things of the bible, there wouldn't be so much trouble in this world today. you seem like a smart person, think some more on this issue. it's not that simple to make such a deduction. you're talking about a complicated God. you cannot possibly sum Him up in a nutshell.

Basically, you want to determine the qualities that you want God to have. The beauty of God is that He doesn't force anyone to accept Him. If you don't like those qualities about God, then you don't have to accept Him. You then make a conscious decision to reject God. God just is. You have free will. If people were allowed to dictate the qualities of God, then He wouldn't need to be called God. He is a loving God and at the same time an angry God. Yes, I said it. an angry God. and when He gets angry, it is within his rights to be angry for we are his creations. If He wants to kill us off, it is within his right to do so. If He wants to destroy the universe, it is within his right to do so. we, as humans, don't get to dictate what He wants to do with his creations. everyone has their 2cents to put in when it comes to God. Just who do we think we are? Alot of people who talk about God just focus on the loving characteristics of God. If that is your sole focus, then you don't know God, and therefore can't really say much about Him. God is inconsistent? really? If you read the bible in its entirety, you would realize that we are the ones who are inconsistent. We're always changing and we expect God to change along with us. as if He is nothing more than a little puppet whose strings we have only to pull and He'll dance to our every tunes. Gandhi? really? how many Christians did Gandhi meet? Just why is it that people are so angry at God when we are the ones responsible for the mess we are in? we're not asking God for help, we're telling Him what He should be doing.

Wow what you just explained sounds like god is indeed a sexist. I feel like your view of the bible is a little skewed as well. What Cliff said about the inconsistencies of god being all loving then a vengeful god is absolutely true. Yet you refuse to concede that point. My opinion...go read the bible.
One more thing. Just because someone is liberal, progressive, homosexual doesn't mean they can't believe in God. You're the perfect example of one of Gandhi quotes. “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.”

Your knowledge of the Bible is skewed and you don't seem to understand the circumstances and the times it was written. I see no contridiction in your post and God is not sexist.
God originally created man and women at the same time and they were both equal, but the women (named Lilith) rejected Adam and refused to be with him out of her own pride. She then left Eden and despite many attempts by the angels to convince her to come back she didn't and basically became a harlot and slept around with other angels (whom later become the fallen ones or demons so to speak). Now God saw that it was not good for man to be alone so he created Eve /FROM/ Adam, and because of that women were deemed to be "under" man. When I say under man, I mean that she was expected to show him respect and honor him, something that Lilith refused to do. Eve was essentially God's plan B since giving humans free will can obviously detour what God wants for us. It was never Gods will to make women "under" man, but it had to be done.
Now of course this does not really answer or get into the whole debate of whether God is real or not, but I will gladly show you through facts and experiences/testimonies why this universe had to have a creator and why the God of the Bible is infact real. Now maybe you've dipped your toes into this whole "God thing" and didn't care for it too much, be it from a bad church or pastor that may have left you a sour taste in your mouth. Or maybe you're very liberal or a homosexual and you don't like the set of moral standards that the Bible implies and much rather prefer your own moral standards. Whatever the case may be I urge you to really search deep within yourself and find God, because God is real and God loves you more then any person on this Earth could ever love you.

Examine God's sexism
If you would like to prove to yourself that God is imaginary, here is one easy way to do it: Look for places in the Bible where God is an absurd, unmitigated jerk instead of the "all-knowing", "all-loving", "fully-enlightened" being that he is supposed to be. The utter contradiction proves that God is imaginary.
In Ephesians 5:22-24 we find this: "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything." Christians and non-Christians alike reject the Bible's teachings in these areas because the Bible is obviously wrong. The part that is profoundly strange is that, while completely rejecting these parts of the Bible, Chistians will claim that other parts of the Bible are God's word. They are blind to the obvious contradiction because of their utter delusion.
Once you break the delsuion, it is completely obvious: God is imaginary.
