Burgers, Bikes, and Polo

Seeing people screaming and waving sticks on bicycles used to mean you were entering a scene akin to the McDuffie riots. But thanks to the Miami Bike Polo League, now you can join in the fun without having to worry about Officer Friendly paying too much attention. This Sunday, beat the weekend hangover with a mallet and a burger at the fourth monthly Miami Bike Polo BBQ. Yes, it is just what it sounds like: the sport of polo minus the horse. All skill levels are welcome as long as you have your own bicycle. Matches will be held for free at the basketball courts of José Martí Park, with food and mallets ready for anyone who wants to participate. Barbecues can be expected the last Sunday of each month. But if that doesn't fit your schedule, you can always come for a foodless match every Friday at 7 p.m. (except each last Friday in observation of Critical Mass), and every Sunday at 1 p.m., always at José Martí Park. It's always free, it's always fun, and it's a lot more convenient than joining a country club.
Sun., Sept. 4, 1 p.m., 2011
