That great romantic Jon Bon Jovi once said, "The only thing I like more than my wife is my money, and I'm not about to lose that to her and her lawyers." Which might be why Tenso in the rom-com flick A Boyfriend for My Wife (Un Novio Para Mi Mujer) hatches an elaborate scheme to get out of his marriage without asking for a divorce. And no, he doesn't put a hit out on her. As we learn in the film, Argentina's biggest box office hit in 2008, Tenso can't bear his wife anymore. She's moody and complains a lot (argh, women). So he employs a local Don Juan to seduce Tana so that her infidelity will end their marriage. The performances are so subtle and effective they garnered praise at the Argentinean Film Critics Association Awards and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Argentina. But perhaps the bigger endorsement is that awkward rom-com god Steve Carell bought the rights to remake the movie in the near future. See it in its original subtitled form this Thursday when it screens at the Tower Theater.
