In those hot and heavy postdisco years, otherwise known as the early '80s, the party people of the world were dying for sexy music that didn't suck. They desperately needed to shake some ass. But platform boots, full-body jumpsuits, and lite 'n' cheesy fluff weren't gonna cut it. So it was a fine, sweaty night when Steve Arrington and Slave zapped onto the scene with a string of deep and dirty dance tracks (e.g., 1979's "Just a Touch of Love" and 1980's "Watching You") that finally made it possible to get dangerously funked up again.

Now, though, in this second decade of the 21st Century, the party people of the world have been dropped into another dark age. And that's why Stones Throw and West Coast cosmic-funk aficionado Dâm-Funk have recruited Mr. Arrington to help satisfy humanity's ubiquitous urge to shake some ass. The three-part plan: (1) A full album of true funk, fronted by the former Slave singer and produced by Brother Funk, to be released this year on Stones Throw; (2) a series of house parties across the USA, such as this Saturday's Miami Summer Groove at the Pickle; and (3) an outright ban on platform boots, full-body jumpsuits, and fucking fluff.
