Sometimes a woman needs to just show a man how to get it done. That’s why we appreciate California transplant and proud Jamaican Jahneen Leslie, AKA Mommy Warbuck$, and her Sugar Freeevent that takes place Saturday at Eve. Not content playing second string in a man’s world, Sugar Free puts women front and center. On the bill are ladies making their mark on reggae, dancehall, and dance music. New York’s DJ Jasmine Solano has been making strides in the city’s club scene with her monthly party Electric Punanny. Then there is Jovi Rockwell, who is perhaps best known for her contributions to Major Lazer’s debut album on the track “Can’t Stop Now.” The lineup also includes other up-and-coming acts such as Tennille and Sopheye, and even some testosterone courtesy of KushXPalmTreez and Somejerk.
