Just last week, Torres debuted a catchy little ditty called "Creo en America" ("I Believe in America"), a feel-good, finger-snapping slice of Pan-Americanism he helped write specifically for the Copa América 2011 soccer tourney, hosted this year by his tierra patria. With an assist from Ivete Sangalo, Choq Quib Town, and a guy with a tiny guitar, Torres spread his message of hope, innocence, and winning: "I want to celebrate this occasion/A world without rancor/And without borders/Yes, in America/I believe, believe, believe, believe!"

And if saying it four times doesn't sufficiently convey Diego's intense belief in his country, continent, and the game of fútbol, he's gonna end the performance and punctuate the point by banging a giant gong, over and over, till you get it, chabón.
